 SUPERVISION OF PLAYGROUNDS

An adult presence is provided in playgrounds at break times in terms of the schools (Safety and Supervision of Pupils) (Scotland) Regulations, 1990.

For reasons of safety, children should not enter or leave the school grounds by crossing the car park. Children should enter using the appropriate gates and paths to take them to the play area. It is essential that parents/carers reinforce this habit when taking children to and from school. For reasons of safety, glass bottles and cans of juice are not permitted in the school or in the playground.  In icy conditions it may be necessary to re route the pupils access to the building. In this case a text would be sent to all parent/carers to inform them of this.

In St Mary’s Primary, it is normal to have at least 3 - 4 adults supervising at playtimes.
